However, none of this should have been necessary. The decline in bee, butterfly and bird populations were first noticed 40 or 50 years ago and I think it was suspected, even then, to be due to the changes in agricultural practices. However, there are some powerful people and big money involved, so nothing was done. It was left for future generations to sort out. I very much hope that things are changing with so many more people aware of the problems and getting involved. We have already lost some species of insects and birds, but hopefully we still have time to save others.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2976399714763523599.post-58006627891756195682012-06-01T12:28:05.372+01:002012-06-01T12:28:05.372+01:00Lovely to hear your story. So many wildflowers are truly beautiful in the border, lawn - or sometimes in those dry, stoney tricky places where we might otherwise resort to raised beds or containers. They are so valuable to wildlife they deserve a space - in my view, over and above the specimens that have been so highly cultivated, they have practically lost their value to wildlife.

I do believe nature provides a plant for every space and condition - and each plant has its pollinator(s). Whether it's drought, dry shade, full sun, or damp conditions, it's a good idea not to work against your enivronment but with it if you can. Including wildflowers in your list of potential target plants can really help here!Amandahttp://www.buzzaboutbees.netnoreply@blogger.com
